Women have always been marginalized and relegated to the status of subjugated class in Karongi community. In Murundi LRP, women have not actively participated in their emancipation due to their lack of economic independence and illiteracy. Women should be organized and strengthened at the grass root level to end their subordination. The women and girls of the area are mostly involved in household chores, does not have any say in the family affairs.
Mugwaneza Marie Rose, 19, Kabaya Cell, Murundi sector, Karongi district is one of 16 young girls who participate in the training of tailoring and she gives her training view: “Since it is the first time for us to be introduced to such tailoring training, I would say I am very satisfied and I am learning a lot. This is good training program, one that has challenged even my colleagues whom we are together here. Again, this training is an eye opener for me as a person. I expect to be well trained about tailoring and how everything within it works. I feel I should grab this opportunity to thank both ActionAid and TUBIBE AMAHORO for the great knowledge we are receiving. I think this training will make a great difference to our livelihood and help us shape our future. I think that a simple sewing machine can be the key to a woman’s independence, empowering her to earn for herself and her family. I beg to ActionAid to go on with supports like this and perhaps each year in our sector to help my colleague youth of our community. I thank a lot our sector’s stakeholders once again for thinking much more about our better future.” Mugwaneza Marie Rose exclaimed!
