In the testimonies delivered by former GBV victims who have been supported and given cows, presenting her happiness:
Nyiranturiza, 44, a woman with four children who has been given a cow thanks both AAIR and TUBIBE AMAHORO and states her violence story:
“I’ve been married for nine years, my husband had a temper and lashes out. We started arguing all the time and he would put me down and make me feel horrible. But there was never any violence, just a lot of arguing. One day, I took out a bag and started hurling clothes into it, I would have enough and didn’t want to be in the house anymore, I planned to stay with my mother for a couple of months and then return, but my husband completely exploded. Before I could apologize he was throwing punches to me and I couldn’t believe what had happened, I went out and clean the wounds in crying. I get the feeling he would regret himself what he had done.
Afterward, TUBIBE AMAHORO staff came and organized a counseling dialogue between me and my husband for almost two months so we came up with an agreement that he would never beat me again. I thought there was hope that happiness would fill our home but I thought this was going to be a slow burning process. Thanks for all the advice from TUBIBE AMAHORO that have lead to a legal marriage three months ago, I really appreciate it. Since then, we came friends and we enjoy everything. Further, we were poor to the extent that we would go around begging. Apart from suffering from malnutrition, our children were always sick but by using manure within my kitchen garden and giving them milk from this cow you give us, our children will recover. We are now very happy that next year we will be able to pay medical insurance ourselves. Thanks to ActionAid Rwanda and TUBIBE AMAHORO who didn’t stop to give us regular advice”.
