About us
Tubibe Amahoro (TA), which means “Sow Peace”, is a non-governmental organization working to promote respect of human rights and socioeconomic progress in Rwanda. TA was founded in 2000 in response to the aftermath of the Genocide against the Tutsi. The 30 founding members had the common objective to create an organization that will work towards “promoting sustainable peace” through dialogue, mediation, training, and improving livelihoods. Since its founding, TA has transitioned from a small community association to an organization active in 9 districts (Karongi, Ngororero and Rutsiro in Western province, Nyaruguru, Nyamagabe, Nyanza and Gisagara in Southern province; Musanze and Burera in Northern province) with 8 field offices, 33 staffs and more than 1500 community volunteers. TUBIBE AMAHORO adheres to a human rights-based approach (HRBA) whose core principle is that by being human all forms of discrimination in the realization of rights must be prohibited, prevented and eliminated. It also means that priority should be given to people in the most marginalized or vulnerable situations who face the biggest barriers to realizing their rights. TA advocate for participation, Accountability, Non-discrimination and Equality, Empowerment and Legality between rights holder and duty bearers.
TUBIBE AMAHORO is engaged to help citizens to self-organize, to enhance their skills and practices for effective and active participation in public policies process. We strive to strengthen the interest among citizens in public policy affairs. The organization supports citizens in their efforts to self-organize and acquire the skills they need to engage effectively in national and local level processes of policy formulation and implementation, to ensure that policies work to deliver improved services, especially for poor Rwandans. TUBIBE AMAHORO has in place an advocacy strategy- we are convinced that citizen to influence decision making is not an automation. It requires hard and regular advocacy effort to those who are holding the possibility in hands and those who are ignorant about their duties. It requires as well not only TA to be strong especially by working in coalition to influence the decision making on citizen’s power control and participation, but also empowering citizens for self-organization which require first the empowerment and end in standing for social accountability enforcement. TUBIBE AMAHORO engages local decentralized government entities with taking actions aiming at timely preventing and responding to GBV, delaying referral processes and appropriate services to GBV victims’ complaints. Taking action as well not only on the environmental impact assessment before taking any economic action, but also every planning and budgeting process aim to improve the socio-economic conditions in rural areas where TA operates
