TUBIBE AMAHORO: Empowering Communities for a Sustainable Future
TUBIBE AMAHORO is a community-based organization with a long and successful track record with more than 20 years of experience in promoting social and economic development in Rwanda. We focus on two interconnected areas: environmental protection and rural community development. Our strength lies in fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing among the communities we serve.
To achieve its mission through its pillar of Environmental protection and rural economic development, TA has worked with core support of its members and donors to implement different projects focusing on agroecology, projects working on climate change (environmental justice), and aiming at supporting local communities to engage in small projects generating income; Through rural economic development, TA has supported in networking of resilience,
Building a Brighter Future: Our Impact on the Ground, where TA has extensive experience working with rural communities and cooperatives, has achieved the following significant results:
- Environmental Initiatives:
- Distributed 808,644 tree seedlings for agroforestry, forestry, and fruit trees, contributing to reforestation and carbon sequestration.
- Distributed 5,980 improved cooking stoves to the vulnerable people, in reducing reliance on inefficient fuels and greenhouse gas emissions.
- Supported the construction of 72 biogas units, providing cleaner energy and reducing deforestation.
- Distributed 238 water tanks to households, empowering women and improving access to clean water.
- Supported the construction of 4 public water kiosks, serving hundreds of households in rural areas.
- Provided 1,320 farmers with irrigation systems and terraces, preventing soil erosion and promoting sustainable agriculture.
- Distributed 206 solar panels, providing access to electricity, information, and communication technologies for rural households.
- Empowering Rural Communities:
- Created 1,046 Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), empowering over 28,000 (mostly women) with financial literacy and access to microloans.
- Supported 40 unregistered cooperatives through providing them with the necessary guidance and resources to navigate the registration process and gain access to vital resources.
- Supporting 110 smallholder women-led cooperatives (8,356 member) through strengthening food and nutrition security and resilient food systems in Rwanda.
- More than 200 cooperatives have been established encompassing diverse ranges of activities, including agriculture, pottery livestock rearing and many more
- 44 VSLA groups have been created and linked them to microfinance institutions, further expanded access to financial resources where their average annual saving was 33,172,262 Rwf and 37,701,481 Rwf of loans have been issued while their annual share out of 43,719,384 Rwf have been generated.
- Distributed livestock (292cows,236 pigs,252 goats) to vulnerable families, promoting organic farming and income generation.
- Provided startup kits and training to 1,004 VSLA groups to support income-generating activities.
- Supported 110 women with water harvesting tanks and 28 women with access to loans for installing water at home, reducing time spent collecting water.
